Welcome to K9 Behavior College, where dog development is a way of life. When we understand a dogs way of thinking, we can better fulfill them, and many behavioral issues can be solved with clearer communication between humans and dogs. We offer intensive Rehabilitation and Training programs for dogs with severe behavioral challenges, and Fundamental Training programs for those needing to build a solid foundation, such as a new puppy or rescue dog. We have a proven track record of success with issues ranging from severe anxiety to aggression. Whatever the concern may be, our goal is to restore balance to your life with your dog, and we can't wait to get started!

K9BC's Owner Lisa Porter was hired by Cesar Millan in 2014 and for the last decade has worked with him on his personal Training Cesar's Way team, and as a behaviorist and consulting producer on his Nat Geo TV show "Better Human Better Dog". Working with Cesar and his trainers inspired her to open K9 Behavior College in 2016, and she has been improving dog and owner relationships ever since!

Lisa is also the co-founder of the Pawsitive Change Prison Program, a transformative 14-week initiative that pairs high-risk shelter dogs with incarcerated individuals in California state prisons to foster mutual rehabilitation. Along with Zach Skow, she created this program to reduce recidivism by equipping participants with professional vocational skills while saving dogs from euthanasia. Lisa served as the programs Head Trainer for 8 years, before moving to CA's central coast. She now works as a program consultant.

Our Philosophy

We believe that natures way is best and we strive to honor dogs for who they are. Dogs can be well trained but still have anxiety, obsession, insecurity and other psychological issues that lead to many bad behaviors. We address dog psychology before dog training, because we understand that the mental state of the dog ultimately determines their behavior. We know that our relationship with them affects whether or not they will look to us for direction, or respect our rules and boundaries. Our goal is never to simply "suppress behavior" but instead to create a calm, happy, balanced state-of-mind, and a mutually trusting and respectful relationship.
